West End School

This art education project, "LEGENDS & KIDS® Young Authors Program©," has been designed to introduce our students to the art of creative writing, drama, illustration, and storytelling.

This project aimed to enhance creativity through the art of writing, create opportunities for parental involvement, engender civic-minded students, and enhance education.

Youth United for Prosperity, Inc. (YUP) is a 501© (3) non-profit foundation led by its founder and CEO, Dr. Joseph Profit, who was the project's facilitator.

YUP used many different venues to stir the imagination of our students and create art and creative literacy. The program aligns itself with a comprehensive curriculum and requires parental involvement, which has a cross-generational component with pre and post-testing for quality assessment.

The students began the writing process with an authoring technique called pre-writing and a teaching technique called four-square writing, which assists in developing a great story. After creating the story, the students were taken through the formal writing process of brainstorming, pre-writing, drafting, and managing the beginning-to-end process of the book.

These students have proven their ability to produce essential and beautiful art forms by becoming young authors, elevating their self-esteem and morals.

The excitement is contagious and has consumed the entire school.

The final product, the book, has been placed in the school and public library.
The young authors will read this book to their lower elementary grade schools. Again, we thank Dr. Joe Profit( and the Hits nonprofit foundation) for selecting our school to participate in this fantastic program.
